Decarbonising

The original manufacturer recommendations recommend that the SR2 is decarbonised after about every 1500 hours of run time, or sooner if engine shows loss of compression or blow-by past the piston, this decarbonising procedure will require the top end gasket set.

Basic Decarbonising Instructions

Decarbonise after about 1500 hours.

1. Remove cylinder head(s).
2. Remove piston(s) and rings.

All parts must be thoroughly cleaned and washed in paraffin (Kero)

Special care must be taken with regard to:-

1. Recess in exhaust valve guide(s).
2. Valve ports.
3. Piston ring grooves.
4. Combustion chamber(s) in top of the piston(s).
5. Fins must be cleaned on cylinder(s), cylinder head(s) and injector sleeve(s). This is very important.
6. The inside of the piston(s)
7. Regrind valve seats if not in perfect condition.
8. Clean out exhaust piping and silencer.
